The MEDC’s Supply Chain Resiliency (SCR) team connects Michigan suppliers with purchasing and investment opportunities in key sectors, including advanced manufacturing, defense, aerospace, mobility/electrification, and clean energy. Our team empowers Michigan companies to compete and grow in traditional and emerging markets, promoting stability in a rapidly evolving global supply chain landscape.

Due to Michigan’s manufacturing capabilities and R&D support, defense is a growing industry in the state. A recent $49.4 million agreement with the Department of Defense Manufacturing Technology Program and MSF’s investment in American Rheinmetall are examples of how Michigan is supporting this initiative.

Defense-related programs are also being offered by top colleges like Eastern Michigan University, Oakland University and Michigan Technological University to support the demand for skilled talent in this field and create opportunities for innovation.

The manufacturing industry is currently the largest contributor to Michigan’s GDP. Michigan has the sixth largest advanced manufacturing workforce in the country, with more than 69,800 workers employed in 2024 and serving Fortune 500 companies like BAE Systems, Bosch, Ford, General Motors (GM), Penske Automotive and Dow.
