Chad Leisenring provides an inside look at Innovate Marquette, a Michigan SmartZone that assists in the acceleration and growth of technology-based startups and entrepreneurs in Marquette, Michigan.
One of 21 SmartZones located throughout the state, Innovate Marquette works with individuals, businesses and members of Northern Michigan University to facilitate the commercialization of tech ideas through resources supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. These resources include: business development mentoring, planning and idea vetting, entrepreneurial training, market analysis, networking events, Business Accelerator Fund assistance, Small Business Technology Transfer assistance, licensing consultation and more.
Innovate Marquette is a unique SmartZone because it offers a two-in-one, one-stop shop through its partnership with Invent@NMU. Located inside the Marquette SmartZone, Invent@NMU is a program of Northern Michigan University helping students and community members in the Upper Peninsula take their product and business ideas from a napkin sketched concept to market launch.
With funding from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, business accelerators and incubators like Innovate Marquette and Invent@NMU help tenants fast-track their business concepts from ideation into commercialization by providing them the resources they need to grow.
