Frederik Meijer Gardens

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, located at 1000 East Beltline N.E. in Grand Rapids, MI, opened to the public in April of 1995. One of the nation’s most significant sculpture and botanic experiences, Meijer Gardens includes Michigan’s largest tropical conservatory; five indoor theme gardens; outdoor gardens, nature trails and boardwalk; One of the nation’s most significant sculpture and botanic experiencessculpture galleries and permanent sculpture collection; library; café; gift shop; classrooms; and meeting rooms. Both indoors and outdoors, the 158-acre main campus is barrier free and handicap accessible. Our 2009 building upgrade was awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver status by the USGBC (U.S Green Building Council). Since it opened, Meijer Gardens has attracted more than nine million visitors.

Each year more than 15,000 young listeners get their first taste of the Grand Rapids Symphony at45-minute Lollipop Concerts that feature musical versions of classic children’s literature. Numerous performances are available at various locations.

Also available are 3rd grader concerts. In these concerts the story of Percussion is told. Its history spans from the earliest known humans to all modern cultures. No one tells the vibrant story of the importance of percussion music and instruments better than Bill Vits in this high-energy, high-impact concert just for Third Graders.

The GRS also has 5th grader concerts. In these unique concerts the traditional concert hall takes on a new look and feel with these multi-media concerts sure to engage your fifth grade students in the full spectrum of a live concert full of great music.

The final field trip program is The Access to Music Concerts. These concerts provide a unique performance for members of the Greater Grand Rapids community who are not able to attend traditional concerts due to impairments or physical and financial limitations. These concerts occupy a special place in the heart of the Grand Rapids Symphony’s education programs.

A Detroit-based cultural arts organization, Heritage Works provides programs in cultural enrichment, performance and visual arts, health and wellness, and academic and professional skills development. We start with the child, and reach the whole family. We begin with the ancestral traditions of our primary audiences, and explore the world.

Our mission is to promote youth and community development through cultural arts and traditions. Designed to promote understanding and skill development, our programs use cultural discovery and arts training to encourage personal and artistic excellence.

Holland Symphony Orchestra

The Holland Symphony Orchestra is a semi-professional orchestra with strong ties to the local community. The orchestra began as the Holland Chamber Orchestra in 1989 and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1990, performing the first concert that spring under the direction of Gerrit Van Ravenswaay. John Varineau led the orchestra as Music Director from 1992–1996 and Mihai Craioveanu from 1996-2001. The musical leadership of Morihiko Nakahara from 2001-2007 brought exciting growth to the orchestra and the organization. German-born Johannes Müller-Stosch was appointed in 2007-2008 season from a field of 140 candidates following a national search.

In 2000 the Holland Chamber Orchestra formally changed its name to the Holland Symphony Orchestra to communicate more fully the growth of the orchestra. Led by a Board of Directors of 25 members, 120 musicians and substitutes from the greater Holland area and beyond comprise the orchestra.

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra has a rich and vibrant history serving the Jackson area since 1949. Our mission is to add value, joy and enrichment to the lives of all Jackson area residents through music. The Jackson Symphony strives to impact the lives of everyone in the community either directly through performances and education programs or indirectly by offering positive programs and arts support in collaboration with community agencies, educators and other arts organizations.

Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra

Kalamazoo Kalamazoo

KSO youth concerts are a one hour, interactive concert experience with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Each year KSO has a focus on a different educational theme, and build the repertoire and lessons to support this theme (for example, meter, writing music, etc.) A concert might include acting/narration, dance, and visual art in collaboration with musical performance by the KSO. Students participate by singing, clapping, and using hand/feet movement. Students also get the opportunity to see fellow students’ musical achievements on stage, by listening to the winners of our Youth Soloist competition, and Youth Composer competition.
