The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is hiring for the following corporate position.

Pay Grade and Annual Salary: Pay Grade 6: $115,065 - $158,215

Brief Job Description:

The Director of Small Business Services leads the strategic execution of technical assistance, programs, and resources that support the launch, stabilization, and growth of micro, place-based, and early-stage businesses across Michigan. The incumbent collaborates with internal and external partners to identify and address the distinct needs of these businesses, cultivates a robust statewide network of small business resource providers, and oversees program design and performance to foster equitable small business sustainability and growth. This position provides direction and tactical oversight to the Small Business Services team, which works proactively with a diverse stakeholder base — including internal MEDC teams, other state agencies, local and regional community and economic development partners, cultural and ethnic chambers of commerce, business service organizations, and trade, industry, and member groups — to accomplish this goal.

This position is based at the MEDC office in Detroit and may work a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2 days of in-office work required.

Supervisor: Chris Rishko, Managing Director, Small Business & Talent

Minimum Education Required:

This position requires a bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Public Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree (MBA) preferred. 

Minimum Experience Required:

Five years of related experience. 

Experience and/or training in managing, developing, and implementing community and/or economic development strategy, stakeholder engagement, program design, and program management, including performance monitoring and outcome measurement.
