Careers at MEDC

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) and does not discriminate against applicants due to race, ethnicity, gender, veteran status, or on the basis of disability or any other federal, state or local protected class.

How We Hire

Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is comprised of two types of employees: State of Michigan government positions and MEDC corporation positions. The application process for each is slightly different, but we are looking for the same thing:  dedicated, innovative, talented candidates interested in supporting the success of Michigan.

Step 1: Apply

All MEDC State of Michigan positions are posted and processed through the State’s recruiting system, NEOGOV. The job posting on our site will direct you to the NEOGOV link where you can apply. To apply for a position with the MEDC corporation, please respond to an open opportunity by submitting your resume, cover letter, and completed Employment Application Form to medchr@michigan.org.

Step 2: Review

When a job posting closes, applications are read by MEDC staff who are both experts in interpreting resumes and are familiar with the competencies and skills needed for these opportunities. To ensure we maintain a fair and open competitive selection and evaluation process, Human Resources works with hiring managers to review and complete their evaluation based on position related screening criteria. In order to comply with Civil Service Rules and Regulations, certain candidates applying for State of Michigan positions may also be subject to go through an additional credentialing/qualification process with the Civil Service Commission.

Step 3: Interview

Our competency-based interviewing process is intended to help us provide equal employment opportunities and help minimize unconscious bias, while also making sure we hire people who will thrive at the MEDC. The standard interview process that MEDC practices is a panel interview consisting of a hiring manager, outside team members and/or external partners focusing on competency and behavioral based job-related questions. A second or third round interview may be conducted if necessary.

Applicants with disabilities, who need an accommodation to participate in the interview process, should request the accommodation if they are contacted to schedule an interview.

MEDC employment opportunities, programs, activities, and facilities are available to all without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, national origin, political persuasion, marital status, disability, genetic information, height, weight, veteran status, age or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable law.

Step 4: Pre-checks

Once a hiring decision has been made, Human Resources conducts additional pre-employment checks on the preferred candidate. This includes detailed reference checks. To help us expedite the process, please make sure to include adequate references with your application materials. In addition to references, all job offers are also contingent upon passing a drug screen and criminal background check.

Step 5: Offer

If we receive positive references, Human Resources will reach out to extend a conditional offer of employment. A letter of acceptance with salary and employment information will be provided. At this time, the candidate will be informed of the requirement to undergo a drug screen and background check and will coordinate with Human Resources to ensure that these are completed in the required timeframe. When Human Resources receives confirmation of successful pre-checks, we will reach out to confirm the offer and to determine the best date for you to begin working with us.

Step 6: Onboard

Congratulations! We’re happy to welcome you to the MEDC team. Your first day will consist of orientation with Human Resources and other organizational teams like finance and IT to help you with logistics. Onboarding will continue over the next several months within your individual team and in concert with organizational meetings, activities and other available resources.
