LANSING, Mich. – Packaging materials supplier ITB Packaging is expanding in Holland with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today.

The project is expected to generate total private investment of $3.5 million and create 65 jobs. Michigan was chosen for the expansion over a competing site in Mexico.

“ITB Packaging’s decision to expand in Holland means good jobs for Michigan residents and underscores the strength of the state’s manufacturing talent,” said Jeff Mason, CEO of MEDC, the state’s chief marketing and business attraction arm that administers programs and performs due diligence on behalf of the MSF.

“We’re pleased to work with our local partners and support this investment, and we look forward to working with the company as it continues to grow and add jobs in Michigan,” Mason said.

Founded in 2011, ITB Packaging produces patented packaging materials largely used in North American auto markets. The products include totes, stacked plastic bins and bulk bins used for shipping auto parts. The company continues to experience significant growth and plans to purchase new custom equipment to accommodate the increased demand for its projects.

ITB has identified a new facility for lease in Holland which would allow them to operate out of two locations and eventually expand further at the new facility. The project is expected to generate a total private investment of $3.5 million and create 65 jobs over three years, with the potential for up to 85 jobs and nearly $10 million over five years in the city of Holland. The Michigan Strategic Fund today approved a $325,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant in support of the project.

“ITB is very pleased to have worked with Lakeshore Advantage and other partners to continue our expansion plans and growth strategy. When faced with the choice of where to expand, the decision was quite easy given the vibrant and innovative manufacturing epicenter in Holland,” said Jeff Tischleder, chief executive officer of ITB Packaging LLC. “We look forward to our continued investments into talent, facilities, and capital equipment resources here in West Michigan. At ITB Packaging, our valued employees are our greatest resource. To that extent, we are very excited to announce the addition of 17 full time employees into the ITB family.”

Lakeshore Advantage has offered staff time and resources in support of the project. West Michigan Works! is supporting the project with more than $546,000 in staff time, incumbent worker training grants and on the job training.

“ITB is an innovator in packaging and other applications for their products. Their growth in Holland shows their support for the community and their employees,” said Jennifer Owens, president of Lakeshore Advantage.
