Expansion underscores strength of Michigan’s manufacturing talent

LANSING, Mich. – Custom Profile, Inc., today announced plans to expand in the Grand Rapids area and create 54 jobs with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund. The project is expected to generate nearly $2.3 million in total private investment.

“Custom Profile’s expansion in Michigan rather than another state means well-paying jobs for Michigan residents and underscores the strength of the state’s manufacturing talent,” said Steve Arwood, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which administers incentives and programs on behalf of MSF. “This decision by Custom Profile to invest here offers further evidence of Michigan’s manufacturing leadership and our commitment to helping companies grow and generate new jobs for our residents.”

Founded in 1992, Custom Profile specializes in extruded plastic projects for the appliance, office furniture, automotive, energy, point-of-purchase, and marine industries. The company provides design support and in-house tooling development as well, with more than 180 local employees.

The company recently acquired a plastic extrusion and finishing company in Wisconsin and plans to consolidate operations and expand at its facility in the city of Walker. The project will generate a total investment of $2.28 million and create 54 jobs, resulting in a $216,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Wisconsin.

“We are grateful for the support of the MEDC and The Right Place during this new phase of growth,” said Jim Gorant, CFO, Custom Profile, Inc. “With all of the operational complexities involved with an acquisition like this, it is extremely helpful to have the support we need to ensure we were able to move these jobs here to Walker.”

The Right Place has offered staff time and resources in support of the project. For information on careers with Custom Profile, visit http://www.custom-profile.com/careers/.

“After the acquisition of the company, Custom Profile had several options on the future location of the business,” said Jen Wangler, business development manager, The Right Place, Inc., and service lead on the project. “Custom Profile could have kept the operations in Wisconsin or moved them elsewhere. Instead, working together, we were able to bring the operations here to West Michigan.”
