LANSING, MI -- The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) today announced a new art tour app that can be downloaded to mobile devices and will lead art lovers through various tours of public art around the state of Michigan.

“We know there are many amazing things to discover in Michigan, and public art is one of those. Now, no matter where you are in the state, you can learn about public art and celebrate it with every town and community. That’s what is exciting about this new tool,” said John Bracey, executive director of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. “Visitors, tourists, or business leaders who are considering relocating to Michigan can, by using this tool, dive a little deeper into our culture and have an entertaining experience at the same time.”

After downloading the free MI Amazing Art Tour app here, (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mi-art-tours/id893659250?ls=1&mt=8), users can search various categories of art, including murals, sculpture, and architecture, and the app will then lead them through a tour of those pieces, some within a small radius, others spanning the entire state. Other features include the ability to bookmark and “like” various tours on Facebook and exploring pieces of art within a certain radius of the patron.

MCACA has partnered with curators across the state to compile a diverse and eclectic range of customized tours for patrons. A sample of current tours includes “Public Art in Jackson,” “Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright,” and “Treetown Murals.” New art tours are continually being added to the list, and patrons are welcome to contact the MCACA staff with art tour ideas.

MCACA is the first state arts council to host a statewide mobile art tour.  Those interested in downloading the application can search for MI Amazing Art Tours from their smartphone and begin exploring the tremendous wealth of public art in Michigan.

MCACA, which is part of the Michigan Strategic Fund/Michigan Economic Development Corporation, serves to encourage, develop and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative and cultural activity in Michigan.
