LANSING, Mich. – A health services company will be expanding and adding jobs in Southeast Michigan with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today. The expansion is expected to generate up to $20.3 million in new capital investment and create 462 new jobs in Michigan.

“Michigan’s healthcare industry is growing and recognized across the country, and Molina Healthcare’s decision to expand here underscores Michigan’s business-friendly environment and talented workforce,” said Gov. Rick Snyder. “Molina’s investment and the jobs it will generate demonstrate that reforms to our business climate and our state’s world-class talent are now putting Michigan at the top of the nation’s best places to locate, expand and grow new jobs.”

Molina Healthcare, Inc., headquartered in Long Beach, CA, provides health services to individuals and families who receive their health care through Medicaid, Medicare and other government funded programs. Molina Healthcare of Michigan, a subsidiary of Molina Healthcare, is headquartered in the City of Troy and began operating in Michigan in 2000. The company and its parent plan to expand in Troy as well as lease downtown office space in the City of Detroit. The expansion is expected to generate up to $20.3 million in total capital investment and create 462 new jobs, resulting in a $2,296,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over competing sites in several other states. Both the cities of Detroit and Troy have offered local support toward the project.

“This expansion demonstrates our commitment to the City of Troy, the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan,” said Stephen Harris, president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan. “With new projects coming down the pipeline, like Healthy Michigan Plan, we look forward to continuing to grow our business and the opportunity to create more jobs for local residents.”

The Michigan Business Development Program provides grants, loans and other economic assistance to qualified businesses that make investments or create jobs in Michigan, with preference given to businesses that need additional assistance for deal-closing and for second stage gap financing.

The MSF considers a number of factors in making these awards, including: out-of-state competition, private investment in the project, business diversification opportunities, near-term job creation, wage and benefit levels of the new jobs, and net-positive return to the state. Business retention and retail projects are not eligible for consideration of these incentives.

Molina Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE: MOH), a FORTUNE 500 company, provides quality and cost-effective Medicaid-related solutions to meet the health care needs of low-income families and individuals and to assist state agencies in their administration of the Medicaid program.
