XanEdu Publishing, Inc. is consolidating its operations to one office in Ann Arbor with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today.

LANSING, Mich. – XanEdu Publishing, Inc. is consolidating its operations to one office in Ann Arbor with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today. The expansion is expected to generate $1 million in capital investment and add 65 new jobs.

“XanEdu is a national leader in custom educational materials, and its commitment to Michigan will mean additional good-paying jobs here for years to come,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney. “XanEdu’s decision to consolidate its operations in Ann Arbor underscores Michigan’s business-friendly environment and talented workforce.”

XanEdu Publishing, Inc., a provider of college course packs and custom textbooks for universities nationwide, is consolidating its operating locations to a single location in the City of Ann Arbor. XanEdu Publishing’s production group in Louisville, Kentucky will be moved to Michigan, making investments and creating jobs related to publishing of educational materials. The project includes the creation of up to 65 jobs and a capital investment of $1 million. As a result of consolidation, XanEdu Publishing has been awarded a $325,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Washtenaw Community College has offered commitment to the project in the form of customized workforce development solutions.

In addition to the state’s economic development efforts, Ann Arbor SPARK has been instrumental in XanEdu Publishing’s decision to house their operations in Michigan.

“As part of its efforts to retain and expand businesses in the region, Ann Arbor SPARK has been proactively meeting with XanEdu in recent years,” said Paul Krutko, Ann Arbor SPARK president and CEO. “Throughout the course of our retention work with XanEdu, we’ve connected the company with resources available through the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and Washtenaw Community College that have helped it continue to grow in Pittsfield Township, and positioned this region as a natural choice when XanEdu was looking to consolidate its operations in to one location where it could achieve its long-term goals. We are excited that XanEdu can tap in to the support available here, and use those resources to create the jobs and investment that will grow our economy.”

The Michigan Business Development Program provides grants, loans and other economic assistance to qualified businesses that make investments or create jobs in Michigan, with preference given to businesses that need additional assistance for deal-closing and for second stage gap financing.

The MSF will consider a number of factors in making these awards, including: out-of-state competition, private investment in the project, business diversification opportunities, near-term job creation, wage and benefit levels of the new jobs, and net-positive return to the state. Business retention and retail projects are not eligible for consideration of these incentives.
