Job Title and Level: Mobility Innovation Intern

City/County: Detroit/Wayne (Hybrid)

Type of Employment: Internship

Pay Grade and Annual Salary: $0.00 Hourly (Non-Paid)

Brief Job Description:

To expand its highly successful Michigan Mobility Funding Platform and meet the objectives of both the Mobility Futures Initiative resource and the MI Future Mobility Plan, OFME is seeking a Mobility Innovation Intern to support programs and services offered to the private-sector mobility industry and public stakeholders across the state.

Michigan continues to position itself as a global leader in mobility across air, land, and water. By doing so, it’s critical for the State and OFME to be uncovering transportation and mobility needs across the state and tracking industry trends and capabilities to support.  Understanding community needs and industry trends requires constant engagement with both the public and private sector, and follow-up informative reports not only for entities seeking support by OFME, but also for the OFME team and broader MEDC leadership teams.

The Mobility Innovation Intern will dive deep into the implications of technology on industry and local communities, especially how it pertains to Michigan's place in the changing automotive and mobility landscape. The Innovation Intern will have the ability to do tech scouting, corporate venture research and evaluations of key industry players, all while keeping an eye/monitoring new and existing policies and community initiatives that are emerging in support of the change to connected, autonomous, and electric vehicles.

Duties/Tasks:

  • Conducting technology scouting through web-based research with an emphasis on emerging industries impacting mobility including Advanced Aerial Mobility (AAM) and freight/logistics.
  • Developing reports to address questions and request by various public or private-sector partners focused on AAM and freight.
  • Gaining exposure on program planning while helping develop presentation and planning material including PowerPoint’s, Scope-of-Work’s, RFP’s, applications, and briefing memos.
  • Supporting the Michigan Mobility Funding Platform and OFME team who administer grant programs in AAM, clean energy for the freight industry, and more.
  • Uncovering and tracking program success stories for internal reporting and external marketing opportunities

Note: The internship program is approved through Fiscal Year 2024. There is a possibility for extension beyond September 30, 2024, but there is no guarantee.
