STEAM Ahead
MEDC provided funding to Michigan companies hiring interns in the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) fields. Based on Fiscal Year 2026 budget, this program is currently on hold. Please check back for updates.
STEAM Ahead is a statewide program, administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), that aims to foster meaningful, hands-on career experiences for students interested in STEAM-related positions and to support companies of all sizes with building a strong tech talent pipeline for key focus areas through the next decade:

This program has been a boon to us. As a small manufacturing technology startup, our resources are constantly stretched. [The program] allowed us to take on additional headcount during a time when our cash reserves were iffy. The work performed by our interns directly lead to further investment/funding, and they learned a lot about cold plasma physics and battery manufacturing.
