CURRENT FOCUS

As the Director of Economic Development at Consumers Energy, Valerie leads the organization’s Economic Development strategy. Key responsibilities include delivering new business customer growth while maintaining best-in-class customer experience.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Prior to joining Consumers Energy in 2019, Valerie served as a Regional Director at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) where she led a team responsible for promoting business investment and job growth in Michigan. While at MEDC, she also served as a Business Development Manager in southeast Michigan. Prior to her career at MEDC, Valerie held various positions at Ann Arbor SPARK and has over 15 years of economic development experience in business retention, expansion, and attraction strategy across Michigan.

EDUCATION/PERSONAL

Valerie holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and is a certified economic development finance professional (National Development Council). Valerie was recognized as one of the top “rising stars” in economic development in 2019 as part of the Class of 40 Under 40 Economic Developers (Development Counsellors International (DCI) and Jorgenson Consulting) and is a recipient of the Diane Lupke Scholarship (International Economic Development Council).
