Strategic Cluster Value Chain Analysis
MEDC is searching for a contractor to help develop a source-supported, establishment-level inventory of businesses and economic assets associated with Automotive Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing, and Energy & Grid Components.
Project Goals
MEDC’s FY27 strategic plan establishes a cluster-based framework for prioritizing economic development activities. MEDC is piloting cluster-strategy development for Automotive Manufacturing, Advanced Manufacturing, and Energy & Grid Components, representing core-strength, adjacent-diversification, and new-growth opportunities. More detailed asset and value-chain data are needed to understand Michigan’s capabilities, relationships, gaps, and potential connections across these clusters.
Background of Project
The contractor will develop a source-supported, establishment-level inventory of businesses and economic assets associated with the three clusters. Assets will be classified by value-chain function, capabilities, technologies, markets, geography, and participation status. The contractor will also document each cluster’s principal value chains, Michigan participants, dependencies, and cross-cluster or transferable capabilities. Deliverables will primarily consist of standardized, analysis-ready datasets, taxonomies, crosswalks, and documentation. MEDC will conduct the subsequent strategic analysis and determine priority opportunities and interventions.
