Tecumseh launches crowdfunding campaign for Movies in the Park program

$14,650 goal to secure matching grant through MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places initiative

Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the City of Tecumseh today announced a newcrowdfunding campaign through Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patronicity. The campaign will support the city in bringing free outdoor movies to Adams Park.

If the Movies in the Park project attains its crowdfunding goal of $14,650 by April 30, MEDC will provide a $14,650 matching grant. For project details and to donate, please visit: https://www.patronicity.com/project/downtown_tecumseh_movies_in_the_park#/.

“Tecumseh is a close-knit community and the goals of this project demonstrate that,” said Community Assistance Specialist Nate Scramlin. “We look forward to partnering with city leaders, residents, businesses, and others, on a successful campaign.”

The city of Tecumseh is a close-knit community with a dedication to family-oriented activities and experiences. Years ago, the city sponsored free outdoor movies at Tecumseh Park. The response of the community was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees of all ages. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints the city was no longer able to provide the service.

“The success of this endeavor will allow family and friends to gather together in our downtown park to rediscover outdoor movies, much like the drive-in theaters of the past,” said City of Tecumseh Mayor Jack Baker.

Now, with the help of this campaign, the City of Tecumseh wants to purchase its own projector and 20‘ inflatable screen to begin running movies again. The new setting for the Movies in the Park program will be at Adams Park, an underutilized park that’s easily accessible from downtown and surrounding areas. The park has plenty of open space and public restrooms for movie goers, making it the perfect setting for this project.

“Having a vibrant arts and culture scene is one of the many things that help people fall in love with their communities,” said Dan Gilmartin, executive director and CEO of the Michigan Municipal League. “This crowdfunding initiative in Tecumseh will not only help enhance the community’s existing arts scene, but it will also provide a sense of pride and investment among those who contribute to the effort.”

Public Spaces Community Places is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity where local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of strategic projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from MEDC. Communities, non-profits and other business entities can apply at https://patronicity.com/puremichigan.
