$5,000 goal to secure matching grant through MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places initiative

Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Village of Bloomingdale today announced a new crowdfunding campaign through Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patronicity. The campaign will support a new pavilion on the Kal-Haven Trail at Mitchell Park.

“The Kal-Haven Trail is an asset to the region, and this project will provide new recreational opportunities,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney. “The Public Spaces Community Places initiative, one of the first of its kind in the country, is a great opportunity for residents, businesses, and others to pool resources and actively engage to transform public spaces in their communities.”

If Bloomingdale attains its crowdfunding goal of $5,000 by October 25, MEDC will provide a $5,000 matching grant. For project details and to donate, please visit: https://www.patronicity.com/project/kalhaven_trail_pavilion

“We are excited to be participating in this campaign and look forward to the day the pavilion can be used,” said Village Clerk Steve Strong. “Residents have raised over $16,000 for this project, and we are making one final push to get the remaining funding needed to enhance the mid-point park on the Kal-Haven Trail.”

Bloomingdale has prepared the site at Mitchell Park for the new pavilion and raised about 70 percent of project costs through donations, scrap metal drives, and returnable bottle collections. The crowdfunding campaign and matching grant would solidify plans to begin construction this fall.

Public Spaces Community Places is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity where local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of transformational projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from MEDC.
