The Michigan Economic Development Corporation today announced the application process for the Redevelopment Ready Communities® (RRC) program that supports Michigan communities in becoming development ready and competitive in today’s economy.

LANSING Mich. – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation today announced the application process for the Redevelopment Ready Communities® (RRC) program that supports Michigan communities in becoming development ready and competitive in today’s economy.

“Improving the redevelopment readiness of communities is a valuable tool for stimulating investment and encouraging economic growth in Michigan,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney. “The RRC program helps communities establish a solid foundation for redevelopment, making them more attractive for investments that create places where people want to live, work and play.”

RRC is a statewide certification program promoting effective redevelopment strategies through a set of best practices. The program measures and then certifies communities that integrate transparency, predictability and efficiency into their daily development practices. The RRC certification is a formal recognition that a community has a vision for the future and the fundamental practices in place to get there.

The RRC program is open to any city, village or township in Michigan, with no cost to apply for, or receive an evaluation. Top scoring applicants will receive an in-depth evaluation, report of findings and technical support for implementation of recommended strategies. Communities are measured against a set of best practices. Certification is awarded once a community demonstrates all best practice components have been met.

To begin the process, applicants can request access to the MEDC Client Portal by sending an email to RRC@michigan.org with name, contact information and title.

Important dates:

  • 1/8/14 – Open application period begins through the MEDC Client Portal
  • 2/10/14 – Last day to request MEDC Client Portal access
  • 2/19/14 – Open application period ends at 5:00 p.m.
  • 3/19/14 – Top scoring applicants announced
