Northern Michigan Entrepreneur Britta Carlson of Med Pro Share shares her “bottom line” advice for budding entrepreneurs looking to expand and grow their businesses in Michigan.

Britta Carlson was earning her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Grand Valley State University when she felt inspired to start Med Pros Share, a dynamic online database that provides access to treatment and evaluation plans to medical professionals worldwide.

Britta founded Med Pros Share in 2020 specifically to support professionals in rural settings, helping them access critical information that is more readily available in urban areas. Today, Britta’s database is being built out with the support of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Innovate Marquette, one of the state’s 21 SmartZones.

In this edition of 3 Takeaways, Med Pros Share Founder and CEO Britta Carlson shares her advice for entrepreneurs looking to grow their businesses.

  1. Embrace the unknown. Think of entrepreneurship like having a baby. There’s no perfect path to raise a child or a company. Starting and growing a business involves lots of ups and downs, from moments of frustration and success to everything in between.
  2. Seek mentorship. Find the organizations that can support you and push your ideas along, such as your local SmartZone and the MEDC. These groups are here to help you and reaching out for guidance is a great first step.
  3. Find balance. The life of an entrepreneur is a busy one. Make sure you stop to reflect on your successes. Give yourself time to appreciate how far you’ve come and how far you can go.
