Comparative Analysis of Economic Development Organizations

The purpose of this engagement is to better understand how MEDC aligns with or differs from peer Economic Development Organizations and to identify opportunities for improvement. Respondents are encouraged to propose approaches that will deliver meaningful insights and value to MEDC. The scope of work is intentionally broad to allow respondents to bring forward their expertise and perspective. At a minimum, the study should include comparative analysis of MEDC and other EDOs, as well as identification of leading-edge trends and best practices in economic development. Respondents may recommend additional dimensions, frameworks, or methodologies to enhance the analysis.

Background of the Project:

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is committed to continuous improvement and seeks external expertise to complement internal benchmarking efforts. This study will serve as a foundational review to inform future strategies and planning. The MEDC invites proposals from qualified organizations to conduct a comparative analysis of MEDC and other state economic development organizations (EDOs). The intent is to gain insights that will inform MEDC’s future planning and continuous improvement efforts.

Deliverables will be finalized in collaboration with the selected supplier. At a high level, MEDC anticipates:

  • A report summarizing findings and insights
  • Recommendations for areas of further exploration
  • Respondents should outline their proposed deliverables and any enhancements they believe will add value.

Additional Details:

  • Project length/timeline: 3-6 months
  • Budget/range: Not to exceed $240,000
