Governor John Engler issued the following statement regarding a new report from Consumers Renaissance Development Corporation (CRDC), "A National Comparative Analysis of Brownfield Redevelopment Programs." The report concludes that Michigan has the best brownfield reclamation program in the country: "Balancing common sense environmental policy with business growth means reusing existing industrial sites as much as possible. Our brownfield policy has made it possible for these abandoned properties to be put back to good use, which benefits the environment, limits urban sprawl and helps in our efforts to make our communities as vibrant as they can be. "I'm gratified that CRDC took a hard look at what other states are doing. With voter's passage of the Clean Michigan Initiative, we're now in an even better position to reclaim these environmental eyesores."
