Doug Rothwell, CEO and department director of the Michigan Jobs Commission, announced today the appointment of Brian Swift as director, global consulting services. In that role, Swift will represent the state to site location consultants both domestically and internationally. Swift will leave his post as director of Northern Michigan operations for Governor John Engler. "Brian's mix of experience in management, economic development and dealing with the public makes him ideal for helping us sell Michigan to these important decision makers," Rothwell said. "A site consultant can refer dozens of clients to Michigan, as long as the consultant knows all the benefits of being here. That's what Brian will do so well for us." Swift has run Engler's Northern Michigan operation since 1994. Before joining the administration, he worked in consulting, sales and as district representative to former Congressman Robert Davis. He has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Northern Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Michigan State University. While working in Marquette, Swift has been active with the Copper Range Task Force Board, the U.P. Workforce Development Consortium, the K.I. Sawyer AFB Conversion Authority, the Marquette Chamber of Commerce and many other civic organizations. Swift's appointment is effective February 1.
