New Order Ends Concerns over Transportation FundsGovernor John Engler today signed Executive Order 1999-2, amending Executive Order 1999-1, which reorganized the Michigan Jobs Commission. Under Executive Order 1999-2, the Governor is rescinding the transfer of the statutory responsibility of the State Transportation Commission to the Michigan Strategic Fund. "I am confident that this reorganization will provide improved oversight of important economic development functions and funds," said Engler. "In conjunction with Executive Order 1991-1, it will also allow Michigan citizens to benefit from our successful, award-winning economic development programs by streamlining functions and providing greater consolidation." Executive Order 1999-2 places oversight of economic development functions with the two state departments that have necessary expertise in economic development: the Michigan Department of Transportation and the Michigan Strategic Fund. "By signing Executive Order 1999-2, we have eliminated local governments concerns that Transportation Economic Development Funds would be diminished," said Doug Rothwell, CEO and Department Director of the Michigan Jobs Commission. Executive Order 1999-2 takes effect immediately.
