LANSING – Fans looking to get a sneak peak of Kid Rock’s new album “Rebel Soul” can head to michigan.org starting today. The world premiere of “Detroit, Michigan” is available exclusively on michigan.org/kidrock through November 19, when “Rebel Soul” is released. Fans of Pure Michigan will also have the opportunity to share their “Detroit Pride” as part of a contest on the Pure Michigan blog.
The fourth track on “Rebel Soul,” “Detroit, Michigan” chronicles many of Detroit’s musical superstars, including Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger and George Clinton, as well as icons like Rosa Parks and Henry Ford. Kid Rock sings about that old time rock-n-roll and the Big Three in the song, which is only available on michigan.org.
“Detroit, Michigan” showcases Kid Rock’s pride in the city, and Pure Michigan wants to hear from its fans about the places they go and things they do to get their “Detroit Pride” pumping. Pure Michigan will choose one winner, at random, from the entries submitted to the comments section on the Pure Michigan Connect contest blog post. The winner will be announced Friday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. EST and will receive a $100 gift certificate for the Pure Michigan store on michigan.org. Fans must include an email address to be eligible to win and the deadline for submitting entries is 12:00 (noon) EST on November 9.
Rebel Soul will be the 9th studio album for the five-time Grammy nominee. Kid Rock’s last studio album, “Born Free,” featured Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior, as well as Ortonville, Michigan in the music video for the title track off the album. In August, Kid Rock served as Grand Marshal of the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Kid Rock again to offer his fans and the fans of Pure Michigan the chance to preview “Detroit, Michigan,” exclusively on michigan.org,” said George Zimmermann, Vice President of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Kid Rock is a long-time champion for Michigan – through his lyrics, as in the case of “Detroit, Michigan,” and through philanthropic efforts including his work to establish the Kid Rock Foundation and the Made in Detroit Endowed Scholarship.”
Kid Rock recently joined forces with Quicken Loans as part of the Opportunity: Made in Detroit campaign to spread the word about the resurgence of Detroit as a place to work, live and play. He has also worked with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, holding a sold-out joint concert with the orchestra at the Fox Theatre on May 12, 2012. Ticket sales from that concert helped to raise $1 million for the DSO.
As an entrepreneur, Kid Rock opened the American BadAss Beer Company in Michigan in July 2009, and refueled and became the face of the Made in Detroit brand and clothing line.
Kid Rock established the Kid Rock Foundation to raise funds for and provide resources to other non-profit organizations across Michigan and around the country, especially those working to aid disadvantaged children, victims of war and natural disasters, and those suffering from illness. He also works closely with The Rainbow Connection to help fulfill wishes of children in Michigan who have life-threatening illnesses, and the Detroit-based Karmanos Cancer Institute.
In 2009, Kid Rock established the Made in Detroit Endowed Scholarship through Wayne State University to help offset tuition costs of students from throughout southeastern Michigan who are selected for their academic achievements and limited financial resources.
As one of the country's most ardent supporters of the United States military, Kid Rock works closely with Operation Homefront, the USO and Operation Happy Note, among other organizations, whose missions are to assist armed forces members and their families. He also regularly visits service members and has performed for troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Italy, Spain and Kosovo.
Kid Rock has sold more than 25 million records since his debut more than a decade ago. His album “Rock ‘N Roll Jesus,” released in 2007, debuted at #1 and stayed in the charts for 100 weeks, becoming the biggest selling Rock album of 2008. His hit single “All Summer Long” hit #1 in eight countries. He has performed at events ranging from the Grammy’s to the Country Music Awards to the Hip Hop Honors.
While fans will be able to listen to “Detroit, Michigan” first on michigan.org, it will not be available to be downloaded.
