College graduates connected with Detroit job opportunities
LANSING–On Friday, October 21, Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) LiveWorkDetroit will showcase the city of Detroit to college students and recent graduates from all over the state and beyond, and introduce them to Detroit-area employers with jobs to fill.
“Detroit is buzzing with new energy and an entrepreneurial spirit to rival that of any city in the country,” said Mike Finney, President and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Detroit is a place where talented young professionals can make their mark early, and make a real difference in the future of the city and the state of Michigan.”
LiveWorkDetroit is an MEDC initiative designed to connect Michigan’s college graduates to Detroit job opportunities and promote the city of Detroit as a preferred post-graduation talent destination. The first LiveWorkDetroit event took place on March 25, 2011 and brought 5 charter buses of over 200 students from 20+ universities and colleges from across Michigan.
While the October 21 event will feature a wide range of Detroit employers, graduates interested in becoming an entrepreneur or working in the creative class will have a special opportunity to network with seasoned professionals and peers already working in those sectors of Detroit’s emerging economy.
College students and recent graduates can register for LiveWorkDetroit at www.michiganbusiness.org/LWD. The $15 registration fee covers all activities including transportation, lunch, and the tour of the city.
Amber Hubbard was a Michigan State University communications senior thinking she might have to leave the state to find work when she attended MEDC’s first LiveWorkDetroit event and made connections leading to a job she loves in downtown Detroit.
