Cook Arts Center

Grand Rapids Kent

The Cook Arts Center offers different classes in a variety of artistic mediums including dance, clay, visual arts, music, sewing and theater. One time field trips can be arranged as workshops in any of these classes and sometimes weekly/monthly recurring field trips are set up so students can take classes over the course of a semester or other time period.

Croswell Opera House

Adrian Lenawee

The Croswell Opera House, Michigan's oldest continually operating theatre, provides school day programming for K-12 classes throughout the year. Called our Junior Town Hall series, the Croswell has more than thirty years of experience offering educational and experiential learning programs for youth.

Additionally, we offer youth ages 8 and above the opportunity to tour our historic theatre as part of a school day event. Built in 1866, we provide tours that include our "catacomb" space beneath the auditorium, as well as our catwalk and fly space above the stage. Relevant local, Michigan and National history are included in the tour, too.

Theatre

Detroit Repertory Theatre

Detroit Wayne

In order to continue the quest to culturally, socially and artistically help to transform our city, our region, and our state into a more civil society and "a more perfect union," the Detroit Repertory is constantly looking for ways to expand its sphere of influence. Otherwise, in the years ahead the Repertory will become a quaint anomaly, a faded vision that came, that saw, then slipped from memory.

While we can be justly proud of the elegant, intimate, cultural and civic force we have become, making a few friends, changing a few minds, winning a few hearts, and providing a few glimpses into a different future, are not enough. To pass the baton to a new generation of leaders and keep the mission alive, the Repertory must continue to grow physically, artistically and civically and relentlessly help to build bridges across and between all Metropolitan Detroit communities.

Downriver Council for the Arts

Wyandotte Wayne

Founded in 1978, the Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) arts and cultural organization that proudly serves nearly 400,000 residents in 21 Downriver communities. The DCA's mission is to enrich the quality of life in the Downriver communities by advocating and promoting the arts and providing opportunities for involvement and participation in arts and cultural activities. We actively support local artists and performers through artistic outreach programs and special promotional opportunities.

The DCA also creates regional partnerships with other cultural organizations, schools and service clubs to promote artistic, cultural and special events throughout Southeast Michigan. We hold these activities in our Arts Center and by operating in the various cities we serve. Each program and event at the DCA seeks to increase knowledge and understanding of art and ourselves, improve skills by participants, change one’s attitude or values, give enjoyment, inspiration, and creativity. We welcome all people including youth of all ages, disabled people, underserved/minority populations, and social conscious groups.

Glen Arbor Art Association

Glen Arbor Leelanau

The formation of the art association is a story of the talent and enthusiasm of a few people who wanted to see the work of area artists celebrated and promoted for all to enjoy, by teaching classes, organizing exhibits and holding events that promote understanding and appreciation of the arts.

In 1983 local artists and art supporters Suzanne Wilson, Ananda and Ben Bricker, Midge Obata, Becky Thatcher, Frank and Barbara Siepker, and others pooled their ideas and energies to create the organization. Some of them continue to be actively involved to this day and many other talented and dedicated individuals have joined to carry on and enlarge the original vision for the Glen Arbor Art Association.

If you are an area resident, either full time or during the summer, and share an interest in our mission, come and join us.
