Business Facilities magazine recognized Michigan’s strengths in IT and cybersecurity, ranking the state 9th for tech jobs growth and 9th for cybersecurity leaders.

IT hardware and software startups received 21% of venture capital invested in Michigan in 2021 and accounted for 35% of VC exits.

Michigan has roughly 84,000 workers employed in technology cluster industries, with most talent concentrated in computer systems, design services and customer computer programming.

Why Michigan for Cybersecurity?

The state’s Cybersecurity Initiative is the world’s first comprehensive state-level approach to cyber, improving the state’s defenses and fostering rapidly growing cyber talent and business environments. Michigan is focused on finding innovative solutions to prevent and respond to cyber threats with an emphasis on building a strong “cyber ecosystem” of partners in both the public and private sectors.

Michigan’s Cyber Range is the nation’s largest unclassified cyber range, with hubs stationed around Michigan, including at Northern Michigan University in Marquette; the CCDC Ground Vehicle Systems Center in Warren; Pinckney High School; the Macomb-OU INCubator in Sterling Heights; Wayne State University; and the West Michigan Center for Arts & Technology in Grand Rapids. These Cyber Range hubs throughout the state offer more than 40 industry-recognized certifications, exercises and workshops aimed at qualifying individuals for positions and contracts in cybersecurity fields.
