Partner/President of Business Development, Short’s Brewing Company, Elk Rapids & Bellaire
Scott Newman-Bale is a Partner of Short’s Brewing Company serving as their President of Business Development. The role is responsible for helping facilitate the added challenges created by growth including increased distribution, acquiring new property, licensing, and researching business diversification.
Newman-Bale was appointed to the MEDC Executive Committee in 2014.
Scott was introduced to entrepreneurship at a young age, as he grew up working in his family’s business. He then joined Bullfrog Productions, a small video game maker, who were later acquired by Electronic Arts where he then worked as their Database Manager. During a sabbatical trip Scott visited Michigan and fell in love with the State instantly leaving his work to return to school and become a faculty member at Lansing Community College. During his Senior year at Michigan State he helped open Short’s Brewing Company where he would later work full time. In the meantime Scott opened a number of other companies largely focused in real estate in the Metro Detroit area. Scott joined Short’s Brewing full time in 2007 acting as their CFO before taking on his new and current role in 2013.
Education and Personal
Scott attended Lansing Community College before transferring to Michigan State University. There he graduated with high honors with a Management degree. Scott will also complete an MBA and a Master of Science in Finance from Walsh College later this year.
Scott is married to his wife Judy and has two daughters Emma and Sophie. He serves as Treasurer for the Michigan Brewers Guild and sits on the Finance and Government Affairs Committees of the National Brewers Association.
