Director of Business Marketing

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is hiring for the following corporate position.

Job Title and Level: Director of Business Marketing

City/County: Lansing/Ingham (Hybrid/Remote)

Type of Employment: Full-Time

Pay Grade and Annual Salary: Grade 6; Pay grade 6 begins at $105,600 annually. Additional compensation consideration given based on relevant skills, education, and experience.

The Business Marketing team is charged with communication and marketing efforts for the MEDC as part of the overall objective of improving Michigan’s image as a world-class business and leisure travel destination. This position will direct Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) marketing across key channels including advertising, content marketing, digital marketing, sponsorships experiential marketing, and more.

This position manages MEDC’s advertising agency of record as well as cross-functional internal teams including design, web and field marketing to facilitate and promote business and economic development efforts in Michigan that bring new businesses and residents to the state and support the growth of those here. Actively and appropriately engage key internal and external partners, stakeholders and constituencies in creating and driving market strategy and demonstrable results. 

The preferred candidate will have

  • Significant agency management experience
  • Experience marketing/advertising economic development initiatives and/or experience with handling the dynamics of state government
  • Strong written, verbal, listening and interpersonal skills

This position will be based out of the Lansing office with the ability to work a hybrid/remote schedule upon MEDC’s official return to office date.

Business Unit: Marketing & Communications; Business Marketing

Supervisor: Michelle Grinnell, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications

Minimum Education Required:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Minimum Experience Required:

This position requires a minimum of five to seven years related experience and/or training in managing, developing and implementing branding, marketing and advertising strategies and visions, marketing management, marketing agency supervision, market research, public speaking, website strategy and project management.

Prefer a candidate with significant agency management experience, experience marketing/advertising economic development initiatives and/or experience with handling the dynamics of state government.
