MSF Fund Manager and Senior Advisor
Valerie Hoag is the MSF Fund Manager and Senior Advisor with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. In her role, she oversees the administration, business and policy decisions of MSF programs to assure compliance with board actions and policies. Valerie also negotiates the final terms and conditions of a development deal, executes agreements on behalf of the board and serves as the strategic advisor to the MEDC staff.
Valerie has spent most of her professional career in economic development with the MEDC and its predecessors since 1987. Prior to her current role, she served as senior policy advisor for business incentive and partner services, advising senior leadership regarding the allocation and structure of awards to companies under business incentive programs. She also coordinated and managed all external partner relationships, including key economic development groups, site consultants and state department partners. As primary point person for economic development efforts in the city of Flint, Valerie worked closely with the Governor, Lt. Governor and Mayor of Flint in matters relating to job creation and investment in the city.
In her previous role as senior vice president for business development, Valerie managed a team of 100 business professionals responsible for retention and attraction efforts across Michigan. Her leadership resulted in $4.2 billion in new investment and the creation of 37,000 jobs. As the managing director for business incentive tax credits and technology development investments, Valerie oversaw the implementation of the $137 million 21st Century Jobs Fund, including contract negotiations for 78 investments.
Valerie is a graduate of Michigan State University with a dual bachelor’s degree in food systems economics and packaging.
