As the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the MEDC, Doug Kuiper leads the organization’s communication strategy and execution of marketing initiatives, including the state’s business retention and attraction campaign, Pure Michigan travel campaign and PlanetM mobility campaign. Kuiper also serves as a key liaison to stakeholder groups, including state and local partners. In his role, he is focused on identifying and communicating the many compelling reasons why Michigan is among the world’s best places to live, work and play.
Before joining the MEDC, Kuiper served as Vice President of Corporate Communications at Ilitch Holdings, Inc. for four years, where he led strategic communications, marketing and community relations initiatives across the organization. Those efforts included branding and communications for the introduction, construction and opening of Detroit’s new home for the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings, Little Caesar’s Arena. Prior to that, Kuiper served as Chief Marketing Officer for cloud software provider Covisint and as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Compuware Corporation. In these roles, he guided business development campaigns, employee communications, investor relations and global branding.
Kuiper is a graduate of the University of Michigan and holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. He also has a master’s degree in English Literature from Wayne State University.
