LANSING, Mich. – Wright Plastic Products is expanding in St. Clair and Montcalm counties with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today. The expansions are expected to generate $5.8 million in investment and create 40 jobs.

“Wright Plastic Products’ expansion here rather than another state means good jobs for Michigan residents and underscores the strength of the state’s manufacturing talent,” said Jennifer Nelson, chief business development officer and executive vice president of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the state’s chief marketing and business attraction arm that administers programs and performs due diligence on behalf of the MSF.

“The decision by Wright Plastic Products to invest in Michigan offers further evidence our commitment to helping companies grow and generate new jobs for our residents.”

Wright Plastic Products Co., LLC provides a variety of custom plastic parts in the automotive, recreational vehicle, defense and consumer markets. The company plans to expand its facility in the city of St. Clair to make room for three two-shot injection molding machines and to add three two-shot machines at its facility in the village of Sheridan, investing up to $5.8 million and creating 40 jobs. As a result of these expansions, the company has been awarded a $160,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Tennessee.

“Over the past eight years Wright Plastic Products Company has grown very rapidly, adding a facility in Tennessee, expanding our plant in St. Clair, Michigan and adding numerous horizontal, rotary and two-shot injection molding machines. That growth continues, requiring a further expansion of our St. Clair plant and numerous additional two-shot machines in both our St. Clair and Sheridan plants,” said Wright Plastic Products President Bob Luce.

“The State of Michigan and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation have been true partners in the support of that growth, with a mix of infrastructure improvement grants, tax abatement and performance grants tied to the growth of our Michigan employee base,” he said. “We also will be taking advantage of other business-friendly services, particularly programs designed to help us find the additional talent we need to support our growth. We are fortunate to be based in a state with such forward-looking support for Michigan-based businesses.”
The city of St. Clair has offered support to the project in the form of a tax abatement valued at $143,000. Individuals interested in careers with Wright Plastic Products should visit http://www.wppllc.com/Careers.

“The city of St. Clair is pleased to support Wright Plastic Products decision to expand its business in our community,” said Mayor Bill Cedar. “We look forward to the additional job opportunities this will create for both local and regional residents in St. Clair County.”
The Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County has worked with Wright Plastic Products on its recent expansions, including a $1.8 million investment in 2014.

“The county’s economy grows when companies like this make these strategic investments that retain and create jobs,” said Dan Casey, CEO of EDA. “So we’re very appreciative that Wright Plastic Products continues to expand here.”

“The Montcalm Economic Alliance and The Right Place are pleased and grateful that Wright Plastic Products has chosen to further invest and expand in our community,” said Kathy Jo VanderLaan, business development coordinator – Montcalm County, The Right Place, Inc. “We look forward to working with them as they continue to grow as a strategic supplier to automotive and other industries.”
