186 New Jobs for Monroe, StateGovernor John Engler announced today that P & A Industries has accepted a proposal that will create 186 new jobs, 130 created directly by the company in Monroe Township. Under the agreement, P & A Industries, which is a manufacturer of metal stampings and assemblies, will invest approximately $6 million to expand in Monroe Twp. The township was in competition with a site in Toledo, Ohio, for the project. "Keeping good jobs and good companies in Michigan is our number one priority," said Governor Engler. "The new jobs that P & A Industries has pledged to create will mean work for 130 families and continued growth for the local economy." P & A Industries will create up to 130 new jobs in Monroe Twp. because of the expansion and retain a minimum of 65 jobs at the Monroe Twp. facility. Its investment also will generate an estimated 56 additional jobs in the state, primarily from increased purchases from Michigan suppliers and spending by people who receive income from the jobs at P & A, according to an economic analysis done by the University of Michigan. Engler also announced the approval of a tax credit for P & A worth an estimated $2,098,000 voted on today by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA), which closed the financial advantage held by competitor state, Ohio. "The approval of today's MEGA tax-credit is important to both the state and local community because it will allow P & A to bring their 130 new jobs to Michigan instead of taking them across the border to Ohio," Engler said. "That's good news for Michigan workers." The P & A Industries project will provide more than $10 million in revenue to the state over the life of the agreement, resulting in a net positive gain to the state of $8.8 million after the MEGA credit. The project is expected to generate over $136 million in personal income. P & A officials accepted the credit today, and announced that they expect the new facility to be operational by December 1999.
