Companies to Use Site as Recruiting Tool
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Michigan Virtual University (MVU) recently introduced a new Web site feature to the Careersite portion of MEDC’s Web page at www.michigan.org.The site is designed to assist Michigan employers with recruiting college students for internships and permanent high-tech positions.
“This is a great opportunity for companies to find the highest quality interns from universities in Michigan and neighboring states,” said Doug Rothwell, president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.“MiInternship is the newest component to the Michigan Recruitment Alliance designed to attract and retain graduates to Michigan.”
The internship addition is part of the recruiting campaign launched by the MEDC in February 2001.The campaign targets students in the fields of information technology, life sciences and advanced manufacturing attending Michigan universities and select out-of-state universities. The objective is to make college graduates aware of the high-tech job opportunities with Michigan companies.
“High-tech companies and computer-savvy students are accustomed to using Web-based resources,” said David Spencer, Ed.D., president and CEO of Michigan Virtual University.“So this site is the perfect venue for matching talent to opportunity.”
Companies are invited to post openings for internship positions on the site. The service is free to Michigan companies. The Recruitment Alliance will unveil the new Web site feature to students at 18 targeted spring career fairs.
