Conference Details Michigan’s Road to Biomedical Success
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is a presenting sponsor at this year’s BioMed Expo: The Road to Success planned for Thursday, October 26, 2000 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The daylong event will highlight resources available in Michigan to biomedical entrepreneurs. The conference will also focus on all aspects of commercializing biomedical technology, including starting a company, funding, licensing, technology transfer and industry collaboration.
“This conference marks the completion of one objective for Michigan’s Life Sciences Corridor,” said Doug Rothwell, MEDC president and CEO and chairman of the Life Sciences Steering Committee. “BioMed will promote an open dialog between Michigan’s researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs and industry representatives, all who are working together to position the state as a major global center for life sciences.”
BioMed Expo will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Eastern Michigan University’s Convocation Center in Ypsilanti. Following the Expo from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., attendees are invited to open house events at Genomic Solutions Inc. and Esperion Therapeutics, Inc., both Ann Arbor-based life sciences companies that had recent, successful IPOs. These companies showcase the culmination of biomedical technology commercialization in Michigan.
At the conference, Doug Rothwell, Michael A. Finney, MEDC vice president of Emerging Business Sectors and Michele van de Walle, MEDC life sciences business development manager, will host a workshop that includes a Life Sciences Corridor question and answer session.
BioMed Expo was conceived by a task force of leaders from Michigan-based biomedical companies and universities. It is an initiative of Michigan’s Life Sciences Corridor, created in July 1999 to fund life sciences research, development, collaboration and commercialization in Michigan.
The BioMed Expo will feature speakers, workshops and exhibits in a highly interactive setting and encompassing the full range of resources necessary for success in the biomedical industry.
A large number of exhibitors will also be on hand representing the life sciences industry, academic and research institutions, venture capital, patent and general business attorneys, business consulting and services firms, not-for-profit business resources and university technology transfer offices.
Other presenting sponsors include the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, Michigan State University and the Van Andel Institute. For additional information on the Expo, contact BioMed Expo at 734.930.9741 or visit their website at the address below.
