October Activities Honor Minority Contributions to Economy
Michigan Economic Development Corporation President and CEO James Epolito today announced that the MEDC has launched a year-round, online calendar of minority business events to kick off the annual observance of Minority Business Development Month in October.
"One of Michigan's economic strengths lies in its diversity of cultures and ethnic backgrounds," Epolito said. "The MEDC would like to recognize the many contributions of minority business owners by creating an online resource that will promote awareness and create business opportunities throughout the year."
The calendar covers a wide range of activities from networking events to entrepreneurial training and awards celebrations. It can be viewed at www.michigan.org/minoritycalendar.
According to the latest U.S. Census data, Michigan is home to more than 35,000 minority-owned firms.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, a partnership between the state and local communities, promotes smart economic growth by developing strategies and providing services to create and retain good jobs and a high quality of life.
