943 New Jobs for State
American Communications Network, Inc. (ACN) has selected Marquette County over Fort Meyers, Fla., for its new call center, Governor John Engler announced today. Over six years, ACN projects it will create 943 new jobs, 750 directly by the company, for Michigan workers."This new facility will make ACN the fourth largest employer in Marquette County," Engler said. "The fact that this facility is in a Renaissance Zone is also great news." Of the new jobs, 193 spin-off jobs will be created from increased spending by people who receive income from the jobs at ACN, according to an economic analysis done by the University of Michigan.The Governor also announced the approval of a tax credit for American Communications Network, Inc., worth an estimated $4 million over 12 years. The tax credit was approved by the Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA).This project will provide more than $26 million in revenue to the state over the life of the agreement, resulting in a net positive gain for the state of over $22 million after the MEGA credit. The project is expected to generate over $325 million in personal income.American Communications Network, Inc. is an international cooperative marketing company that supports independent representatives in marketing deregulated services, including utilities and telecommunication products and services. The company currently has over 500 employees worldwide. The company plans to lease an existing 31,000 square feet facility located on the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force base in Marquette, with options to expand to a total of 75,000 square feet. "As we become a reseller for long distance phone services, the Renaissance Zone and MEGA credit approval provided ACN with a viable solution when searching for a location to begin our call center operations. We are very impressed with the work ethic and credentials in Marquette, and look forward to the increased job opportunities we will be bringing to the area," said Kim McDonald, Chief Operating Officer of North American Operations at ACN.The Michigan Economic Growth Authority program, which is administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, is used to promote high quality economic growth and job creation in Michigan that would not occur without this program.
