Lansing, Mich. — The Michigan Economic Development Corporation invites college students and recent graduates from around Michigan and beyond to Live.Work.Detroit., a career event taking place Friday, March 28 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Garden Theater in Detroit.
“Detroit is buzzing with new energy that is creating a dynamic, vibrant place to showcase to young adults with entrepreneurial spirit,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney. “Detroit is making global headlines for its amazing transformation by attracting new businesses, visitors and young professionals, and we encourage college students to take a close look at all the city has to offer.”
Live.Work.Detroit. is an MEDC initiative designed to connect Michigan’s college graduates to Detroit job opportunities and promote the city of Detroit as a preferred post-graduation talent destination. Since 2011, more than 3,000 college students from universities and colleges across Michigan and surrounding states have participated in 18 LiveWorkDetroit! events.
The March 28 event is being co-hosted by D:hive and MEDC. Participating students will have the opportunity to network with a wide range of Detroit employers including Detroit Medical Center, Playworks, Quicken Loans, American Axle, and Shinola, among others. The event will include keynote speaker Marlowe Stoudamire from the Skillman Foundation, a panel discussion with some of Detroit’s young leaders from Detroit Young Professionals, Challenge Detroit and ChalkFly, networking, and a tour of some of the exciting small businesses, restaurants, museums, and affordable places to live.
Registration is required; cost is $15. The registration fee covers all activities including transportation, dinner and the tour of the city. Register at http://lwdmarch28registration.eventbrite.com/.
“Bottom line when people ask me Why Detroit? The answer is because Detroit is big enough to matter in the world but small enough where you can matter in it,” said Jeanette Pierce, director of community relations at D:hive and a Detroit native.
