Capitol Ceremony will honor 11 in Annual Celebration
Top Michigan businesses, economic development groups, educators and community leaders will be honored for their successes at the eighth annual Business Success Celebration held at the Michigan Capitol Rotunda in Lansing tonight at 6 p.m.
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm will recognize the honorees who have demonstrated innovation and achievement in their respective fields. The Michigan Economic Development Foundation is sponsoring the event.
"My goal is to transform Michigan's economy into one that thrives in an increasingly competitive global marketplace," Granholm said. "In different ways, these companies are demonstrating levels of innovation and excellence that can only help Michigan prosper."
The 2005 award categories and honorees:
Many of the companies recognized have benefited from assistance from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The MEDC provided key tax incentives to encourage General Motors, Haworth, Quicken Loans and Mobius Microsystems to choose Michigan over other states for their new, job-creating expansions. The MEDC assisted Asterand through a Michigan Life Sciences Corridor award that enabled the company to develop new technology that is helping the world's research scientists unlock the genetic basis of cancer and other major diseases.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, a partnership between the state and local communities, promotes smart economic growth by developing strategies and providing services to create and retain good jobs and a high quality of life.
