MEDC Grant Spurs $250,000 Investment and 24 New Jobs
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced a $100,000 grant to Blackman Charter Township to help auto supplier Mid-American Products expand its current operations in Jackson. The project is expected to create 24 new jobs and generate $250,000 in private investment. A Michigan Economic Development Corporation representative presented a ceremonial check to township officials at a celebration event this morning.
The grant is being made available by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation with funds provided by the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
BlackmanCharter Townshipwill use the grant to upgrade the current waterline that services the company. Mid-American will invest $250,000 to launch the fabrication and assembly of a new product line to be installed in Ford trucks.
The MEDC is able to award approximately $40 million in federal CDBG funds each year. There are 1,655 local governments within the state eligible to apply for these funds. Projects are approved contingent upon compliance with state and federal requirements.
