Life Sciences Product Manufacturer to Invest $750,000
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced an $85,000 grant to the village of Blissfield in Lenawee County to support the expansion of Uckele Health and Nutrition. The company will invest $750,000 in the expansion, which is expected to result in 15 new jobs.A Michigan Economic Development Corporation representative presented a ceremonial check to village officials at a celebration event in Blissfield this morning.
The grant is being made available by the MEDC with funds provided by the federal Community Development Block Grant program. The award will be used for water and sewer improvements to service the expansion. The village will contribute $13,510 to the project.
Founded in 1968, Blissfield-based Uckele manufactures nutritional products and supplements for human and animal consumption. The company currently employs 25 people.
The MEDC is able to award approximately $40 million in federal CDBG funds each year. There are 1,655 local governments within the state eligible to apply for these funds. Projects are approved contingent upon compliance with state and federal requirements.
