New Uses Founded for Former Tannery and Middle School
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced two brownfield redevelopment projects that are expected to create 10 jobs and involve $55.6 million in private investment. The projects in the West Michigan communities of Dowagiac and Whitehall are resulting from assistance provided by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
The redevelopment projects announced today:
- Whitehall:Southshore Development LLC will invest about $50 million to turn a former leather tannery on the shore of White Lake into a residential development with restaurant and marina. The development is taking shape with the help of $3.5 million in brownfield Single Business Tax credits.
The brownfield redevelopments are two of eight economic development projects the Governor announced today. In all, they are expected to create and retain a total of 2,418 Michigan jobs.
