Governor Announces Backyard Storage Solutions Expansion in Monroe, 140 New Jobs

Michigan Wins Company’s $5 Million Investment

An economic analysis conducted by the MEDC estimates that increased economic activity created by the new facility will result in an additional 60 indirect Michigan jobs, in addition to the 80 created directly by the company. The project is expected to generate more than $37 million in personal income for Michigan workers over the life of the tax credit.

The expansion is one of 14 economic development projects the Governor announced today. In all, they are expected to create and retain a total of 8,572 Michigan jobs.

Backyard Storage Solutions is the parent company of two product lines of residential storage and garden structures: Handy Home and Heartland Industries. Handy Home is the leading provider of ready-to-assemble wooden storage and recreational building kits. Heartland Industries provides installed custom wooden storage and recreational building solutions. Heartland products include sunlight buildings, cedar gazebos, storage buildings and play houses.
