New Investment and Jobs Result from MEDC Grant
Charlevoixto make public infrastructure improvements needed for Michigan Scientific Corporation to expand its operations. The project is expected to generate $100,000 in private investment and create six new jobs. A Michigan Economic Development Corporation representative presented a ceremonial check to city officials at a celebration event this morning.
The grant is being made available by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation with funds provided by the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
With its current operations at capacity, Michigan Scientific Corporation recently acquired a new 14,000-square-foot facility. The city will use the grant to connect the new facility to the municipal sewer system. Charlevoix will provide an additional $5,000 for the project.
The MEDC is able to award approximately $40 million in federal CDBG funds each year. There are 1,655 local governments within the state eligible to apply for these funds. Projects are approved contingent upon compliance with state and federal requirements.
