Up to 482 New Jobs for Michigan Workers

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced today that Creative Solutions will be expanding its operations in Washtenaw County. The expansion will create up to 482 new jobs for area workers, including 300 directly by the company.

Creative Solutions plans to make an initial investment of $3.6 million in new machinery and equipment, while company plans are spurring expansion into a new building in Scio Township. The expansion will require a company investment of up to $12 million over an eight-year period

“Creative Solutions is growing as a result of a simple principle: give the customers what they want,” said Doug Rothwell, president and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “As the company continues to prosper, new jobs continue to be created for Michigan workers.”

The MEDC incentive package included a Single Business Tax credit valued at up to $3.9 million over the next 12 years. As a result, Creative Solutions decided to expand at its Dexter facility rather than at a competing location in Carrolton, Texas.

"This is an exciting time for Creative Solutions,” said company president and CEO Jonathan A. Baron. “We are expanding our product line and our customer base.We appreciate the efforts of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to assist us with our growth."

According to an economic analysis conducted by the University of Michigan, it is estimated that Creative Solutions’ expansion will generate a total of 482 new jobs in the state by the year 2013, including up to 300 directly by the company. The expansion will provide a total of nearly $16 million in revenue to the state over the life of the Single Business Tax credits, resulting in a net gain for the state of nearly $12 million. The project is expected to generate more than $197 million in personal income during that time.

“This decision by Creative Solution and the Thomson Corporation confirms that the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Area is a good place to both start and grow a business,” said Susan Lackey, president of the Washtenaw County Development Council. “We’re proud of their success, and the fact that this company has decided to stake its future in our community.”

Creative Solutions, Inc. is a division of Thomson Professional & Regulatory, Inc., which is the largest unit of the Thomson Corporation, a global e-information and solutions company serving the business and professional marketplace.
