MEDC Assistance Backs $22 Million Project, 260 New Jobs
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced a $327,674 grant to the village of Capac in St. Clair County for road, water and sewer improvements necessary to accommodate construction of a production facility being built by Keihin Manufacturing. The subsidiary of Japan-based Keihin Corporation will invest more than $22 million in building construction, machinery and equipment for the plant that is expected to create 260 new jobs. The plant will produce auto manifold assemblies and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems.
There are 1,655 local governments within the state eligible to apply for CDBG funds administered by the MEDC. Projects are approved contingent upon compliance with state and federal requirements.
The village of Capac will contribute $42,000 to the project in addition to $100,000 from the county public works department.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, a partnership between the state and local communities, promotes smart economic growth by developing strategies and providing services to create and retain good jobs and a high quality of life.
