1,000 New Resumes Per Day Available to Employers Governor John Engler announced today that Michigan's Talent Bank -- the state's Internet-based employment service system -- now has over 300,000 resumes listed, making it a valuable asset to employers struggling to find workers. Michigan's Talent Bank is the largest Internet-based public resume system in the nation. "With unemployment so low, it's tough to find workers. No doubt about it," Governor Engler said. "That's why we've put together this system, so there's one place for job seekers to put their resume, and one place for employers to look to hire them. With 1,000 new resumes added per day, employers will find new talent daily." The Michigan Jobs Commission and local Michigan Works! agencies throughout the state officially began using Michigan's Talent Bank in February 1998 as a way to match workers with jobs. The Talent Bank lets job seekers enter their resumes into a database via the Internet. Employers can access that database to search for potential job candidates. Employers also list thousands of job openings that job seekers can view. "With over 44,000 active job openings listed, the Talent Bank is also the place to go for people looking for work," Engler said. "And people who don't have a computer with Internet access can go to their local library, or call Michigan Works! for assistance." To date, employers have used the new system to conduct nearly 250,000 searches for new employees, and have posted over 65,000 job openings. "This kind of feedback tells us that both people looking for work and employers looking for workers are comfortable using the Talent Bank and like the services it provides," said Doug Rothwell, CEO and department director of the Michigan Jobs Commission. The Talent Bank is free to job seekers and employers. It is located at http://www.michworks.org. Employers are verified within 72 hours before being given full access to resumes. People needing assistance finding work can call their local Michigan Works! Service Center at (800) 285-WORKS.
